Oxford International Primary Computing Book 2 - Computer Studies - School Textbooks

This section details books that I have read, enjoyed, and found to be useful resources in my role as ICT coordinator. In keeping with the layout of this website, the books are divided into two broad sections:. Written by teacher trainers, this book offers exemplar lessons alongside detailed exploration of what makes them good, and the theory behind them. Technical terms are defined in an accessible language and plenty of reflective questions are provided to get you thinking about how the lessons would work in practice. Carrie Anne Philbin provides step-by-step instructions for getting the most out of the Raspberry Pi. It has also been an invaluable text for my own subject knowledge. The book covers several fun activities, which include Scratch, Python and Minecraft.

One of the areas of learning, Understanding the World, sets out that children should have the opportunity to explore, observe and find out about technology. Usefully, the objectives for both Key Stage 1 and 2 fit into three main strands: computer science, information technology and digital literacy. There are no specific programming languages outlined in the computing programme of study, so schools can decide how to teach these concepts.

Computers are everywhere, in schools, in stores, and in homes. While they can still be mysterious to many older adults, children are as comfortable with computers as the rest of us are with toasters.
