Home Forums. Dummit and Foote would be my recommendation to learn from. If you are trying to go deeper as in, early grad level , Hungerford. If you are trying to go really deep as in, "I want to be an algebra researcher" then Lang. I've always thought that Herstein's "Abstract Algebra" was a book with a fairly low slope if this is your first algebra class.

Last semester I picked up an algebra course at my university, which unfortunately was scheduled during my exams of my major I'm a computer science major. So I had to self study the material, however, the self written syllabus was not self study friendly good syllabus overall though.

    Fraleigh's "A First Course in Abstract Algebra, 7th Edition" is a good book for self study. It is easy and good for the beginners, and it has a complete solution.
