I will be visiting Barcelona for a few days next week and was looking for some suggestions of good novels set in the city - plane reading and to get a sense of the history without the dryness of a history book. The Shadow of the Wind does not give a lot of the history of Barcelona , and you need to understand some of the post-Franco attitude towards the civil war, one of forgetfulnerss for several years after his dearh, to understand some of the novel. I was reading Robert Hughes' history of Barcelona while there. You could read just the last two chapters which deal with Moderism and Gaudi and look up from the page and see what he was writting about. Gaudi a Biography.
