The Greatest Game Ever Played, Book Review-FBP Ep. 23
The Best Game Ever: Giants vs. Colts, 1958, and the Birth of the Modern NFL
If you play or run roleplaying games, this book is for you. Inside this gorgeous hardcover book, suitable for your coffee table or your gaming table, you will find advice and suggestions for enhancing your RPG experience at the table and away from it. Maybe even years. You get the concepts, and you understand the rules. No one needs to explain the dice to you. Your Best Game Ever embraces the hobby you love, and provides real tips, immediately usable advice, and hands-on pointers you can use at your game table.
The book is full color, and features a greatest hits collection of artwork from other Monte Cook Games products. If you have seen any of the MCG books, you know these are impressive pieces. Chapters have clearly outlined headings, with sub-headings and bullet pointed lists to emphasize material that has been presented in the text. There are sidebars that introduce various related topics and summarize them, as well as several full page interludes by various gaming personalities on a number of different topics. There is a single page index, which also includes an index of the contributor pages 21 separate short essays that generally appear at the end of various chapters. While these are scattered throughout the text, I thought I would address them first, as they appear at the end of various chapters, are from a variety of writers, and touch on a wide range of topics.

TL;DR: This page book takes years of hard-won experience about how to make roleplaying awesome, and lays it out cleanly and clearly. Most of them concern themselves primarily with GMing, and most are aimed squarely at what happens in the game. This is fine, and there are several excellent guides to help GMs run better games. Along the way, they often hit on questions of how players and GM should work together to create awesome sessions and campaigns. Your Best Game Ever was created to be a holistic primer on the hobby, a treatise on what roleplaying is and how to do it.
The remarkable story of the NFL Championship game between the Colts and the Giants—considered by many to be the greatest football game ever played—from Mark Bowden, bestselling author of Black Hawk Down. An estimated 45 million viewers—at that time the largest crowd to have ever watched a football game—tuned in to see what would become the first sudden death contest in NFL history. And it was a contest between the blue-collar Baltimore team, many of whom worked off-season jobs selling liquor or insurance or taking shifts at Bethlehem Steel, versus the glamour boys of the Giants squad who often appeared in magazine ads and TV commercials and were seen around town at trendy spots like Toots Shoors mingling with the likes of politicians, Broadway stars, even Ernest Hemingway on occasion. The Best Game Ever is a brilliant portrait of how a single game changed the history of American sport. Published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the championship, it is destined to be a sports classic.
