Human skeleton , the internal skeleton that serves as a framework for the body. This framework consists of many individual bones and cartilages. There also are bands of fibrous connective tissue —the ligaments and the tendons —in intimate relationship with the parts of the skeleton. This article is concerned primarily with the gross structure and the function of the skeleton of the normal human adult. The human skeleton, like that of other vertebrates , consists of two principal subdivisions, each with origins distinct from the others and each presenting certain individual features. These are 1 the axial , comprising the vertebral column —the spine—and much of the skull , and 2 the appendicular , to which the pelvic hip and pectoral shoulder girdles and the bones and cartilages of the limbs belong. Discussed in this article as part of the axial skeleton is a third subdivision, the visceral, comprising the lower jaw , some elements of the upper jaw, and the branchial arches, including the hyoid bone.

These are a common type of human injuries which can result from the damage of muscular or skeletal systems i. The doctor must be familiar with the anatomy and the injury site to protect his patients from further disability and prevent complications. Major musculoskeletal trauma such as crushed injuries that can cause release of myoglobin resulting in renal tubular injury acute kidney injury , or can be associated with internal torso injuries like acute compartment syndrome. Essentials of Accident and Emergency Medicine. The musculoskeletal system consists of bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and intervertebral discs, as well as their associated nerves and blood vessels [ 1 ], and is powered by the complex interrelationship between these separate structures, each of which depends on the other to function properly.

General Anatomy and Musculoskeletal System. This is an English edition of an Atlas of Anatomy, which was originally published in German and has been translated to make it available to English-speaking students. The copy I was sent to review, however, has a further feature, namely that it is a special Latin nomenclature edition intended to cater especially for those English-speaking users who study and use the Latin nomenclature. The book combines illustrations with explanatory texts and summary tables that present anatomical concepts in a step-by-step sequence, allowing for the integration of both system-by-system and topographical views. The preface indicates the text and tables introduce clinical applications throughout and this is a strong point of the Atlas. The Atlas covers human phylogeny and ontogeny and then gives an overview of the human body as well as an excellent chapter on anatomical terms. Bones, joints, muscles, blood vessels, lymphatics and general neuro-anatomy are dealt with prior to a detailed anatomy of the trunk and limbs.

Read the overview below and download using links given at the end of the post. Each anatomic region is presented in a manner that builds understanding: starting with bones, joints, and muscles, followed by vasculature and innervation, and concluding with topographic illustrations to bring it all together. This atlas begins with a concise overview of development, surface anatomy, anatomic terminology, body systems, and the structure of bones, joints, muscles, and the nerves that innervate them. Each atlas is available in softcover. We always try to provide you the best download experience by using Google Drive links and other fast alternatives.
