Peter and the Starcatchers is a children's novel that was published by Hyperion Books , a subsidiary of Disney , in Barrie 's novel Peter and Wendy. Although frequently reported to be a prequel to Barrie's novel, it is in fact a reimagining and reboot of Peter Pan's world, with very different character histories and internal world-building. A series of Never Land chapter books for younger readers is based on the novels. In , Disney hired Jay Wolpert to adapt the book to film, reportedly to use 3D animation. A play with music adaptation of the book debuted in winter at La Jolla Playhouse , as part of an arrangement with Disney Theatrical.

The book starts three months after the end of Peter and the Starcatchers. When they learn that the Starcatchers have taken the trunk back to England, they set sail for London. Peter follows, fearing for Molly's safety, and with Tinker Bell's help conceals himself on their ship.
